I ask the questions behind the question.

Whatever you came to me with, it's bigger than that.

Based in

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Working with

Founders, CEOs, and executive directors

Here's what I believe.

What you do, how you talk about it, and the people carrying it all have to be in alignment. When they're not, growth stalls — usually somewhere that looks unrelated to the actual problem.

A founder asks whether the rent on a second location works. That's one line in a much bigger question about margin, staffing, standards, and whether the brand gives anyone a reason to show up. A board asks how to raise more this year. That's one line in a much bigger question about whether people understand the work, whether the staff can talk about it, and whether anyone has been given a reason to care.

So I don't start with the part that hurts. I look at the whole organization: the work, the story, the money, and the team. Retail floors and boardrooms, startup brands and sixty-year-old institutions, product launches and capital campaigns. Different rooms, same job — making an organization legible to itself and to the people it needs.

I don't leave a forty-page PDF.

I've watched good recommendations die because no one inside had the standing or the tools to carry them. That's not a strategy problem. It's an adoption problem, and it's the part most consulting quietly skips.

So I don't hand over a plan and walk out. Scripts don't survive contact with a real customer, and a strategy nobody knows how to run doesn't survive contact with a real week. I'd rather leave you with operational skill than a document. When I'm gone, it should still work.

Who this is for.

Founders and CEOs of consumer brands. Executive directors and boards at nonprofits and institutions. Past the point where you know everything happening in your organization, before the point where you need a firm and a deck.

Some clients know exactly what's next. Others just know the current setup won't get them there. I work best with the person at the top — the one who can decide, not the one who has to go ask.

And what I'm not.

Not an agency, not a fractional CMO, not your finance team. I bring the questions, the diagnosis, and the plan. If the work calls for a specialist, I'll say so early — and help you interview for the one who fits what we've identified, so you're not hiring on a guess.

"Sam has been my sounding board for years. She sees the full picture when I'm stuck in the details, asks the questions I didn't know I needed to ask, and helps me make decisions with confidence. Every entrepreneur needs a thinking partner like her."
